TWIN-P / PL: Exhaust Solutions for Room Air Independent Condensing Boilers
Mixed Pair with Many Possibilities
Modern oil or gas heating appliances today primarily operate in room-air-independent mode. Jeremias Exhaust Systems, one of the global leaders in exhaust and chimney systems, offers two concentric exhaust solutions for this purpose: the system TWIN-P, suitable for external wall installation, and the connection pipe TWIN-PL for indoor applications. Depending on the requirements, various installation options can be implemented.
Heating appliances require oxygen for combustion. Conventional systems operating in room-air-dependent mode draw this oxygen from the room in which they are located. However, in modern, energy-efficient homes with airtight envelopes, there is usually no longer enough oxygen available for proper combustion. Room-air-independent appliances solve this problem by drawing combustion air from outside via closed air-exhaust systems (LAS chimneys).
The concentric exhaust systems TWIN-P and TWIN-PL from Jeremias are specifically designed for this application: The intake air enters the system through the outlet or intake openings located lower down, and is directed to the appliance via the annular space between the inner and outer pipes. The TWIN systems not only function in room-air-dependent mode, but they also offer significant added value: First, the cold fresh air is pre-warmed in a counterflow principle by the exhaust pipe, which increases the efficiency of the condensing boiler. Additionally, TWIN-P and TWIN-PL, as closed air-exhaust systems, do not require conventional chimneys. This means the heating appliances can be installed anywhere in the building in compliance with fire safety regulations – in niches, storage rooms, or built-in cabinets. The system TWIN-PL also allows for installation on the roof heating center. In this case, the terminal can be matched to the roof tiles by choosing a color.
TWIN-P is a concentric, pressure-tight system exhaust pipe for both indoor and outdoor use, featuring a plastic inner pipe and stainless steel outer pipe. The surface is glossy and can alternatively be delivered in RAL colors. TWIN-PL is a concentric, pressure-tight system exhaust pipe with a plastic inner pipe and an electropolished galvanized outer pipe. This system is delivered with a colored coating in RAL color (white) and is suitable for indoor use only.
Both systems can be used individually, in combination with each other, or in conjunction with the single-wall exhaust systems EW-PPS and EW-PP-FLEX from Jeremias. This provides numerous installation options. For example, in single-family homes, a TWIN-P connection pipe can be routed directly from the appliance to the outside, where it continues as a TWIN-P riser. Another option is to use a TWIN-PL connection pipe to an existing shaft, continuing the pipe into the plastic system EW-PPS or PP-FLEX.
The high flexibility of the TWIN-P/-PL exhaust systems also allows for custom solutions, such as in multi-family homes. For example, when connecting multiple heating devices to a concentric exhaust pipe, a TWIN-PL connection pipe can be routed through the wall of the house. All connection pipes then merge into an externally mounted exhaust system of the TWIN-P type. This solution can also be applied when refurbishing an existing house chimney. Another solution provided by Jeremias is for the cascade arrangement of heating appliances, for example, in multi-family homes.
